Band Analysis
I have a rock band in mind which I would love to include in my magazine front cover and DPS. They're called "Mischief Managed" and are a new band and are local. They've had a few gigs in the past. The only trouble I have with this is that I'm a member! I'm not sure how I will get over this hurdle as later in the module I believe we have to interview them for the article and I have to be in the photo- maybe I could put the timer on?
An idea I have is that the guitarist will be on the front cover with her guitar jumping in mid-air and smashing the masthead or cover line of the magazine with the cover line saying "Mischief Managed Smashed It!"
The DPS could be all the band being mischievous (with moustaches like above?) or messing around with the props in the studio. The DPS title could be "'Let's Get Up' to Mischief!" as "Let's Get Up" is a song of theirs.
I also had an idea to do "See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil" since there's 3 and it's unique and original. I wasn't sure how to link it with the band an article however.
Since I'm going to be doing a rock magazine, I'll make the band look more like a rock band clothes wise and make up and action wise - we look a bit too happy!
We will shoot in the photo studio in the college since it is local for everyone and easy to get to and book. I booked them in for a few days to get as many good pictures as I can. I told them to dress in the band clothes and look rocky with edgy hair, make up, etc.

Primary Audience Research
I have stopped asking round for everyone to fill out my survey - I have enough results now and I have asked non stop for the past 2 or 3 weeks. I put some physical questionnaires in my Mam's shop and around college for other people to fill out and so I can have a varied audience.
My results show that my target audience is between 15-24 mostly and female since most females filled out the questionnaire. Rock came out on top for the most popular genre. What I found surprising is most of the public do not buy magazines (50%!) The most popular magazine people buy is Kerrang! 75% of the public will be affected if a magazine has a free gift inside. The most popular gifts they will be attracted to is badges, posters, and CD's. As a maximum, people would be willing to pay £3 for a magazine. People would like to see competitions for gig tickets and meet and greets and instruments. The public are normally attracted to a magazine if the front cover includes an artist they like and bright eye catching colours. However one answer got my attention;
Most of the public say that they prefer a lot to be on the front cover so they can tell what will be featured inside but not too much so it drowns the rest of the text and pictures out. One point someone said about this question particularly intrigued me;
Also, 57% of the public prefer a magazine to be monthly.

"I often refrain from buying music magazines as the focal point of the issue tends to circulate around selling material from a successful artist whom I already know about. I enjoy discovering new music and artists and a lot of the big mags don't cater for small time acts. I tend to download material from sites like bandcamp to find new music."

"yes because you can see what you are going to get inside once you by it because there is nothing worse than spotting an good story on the cover you are interested in to then buy the magazine to then find it is the only story you want to read within the magazine."

So, what have I learnt?
- I have learnt that my target audience will be 15-24 year old's.
- Rock will be the most dominant genre in the magazine
- Include free gifts (of posters and badges) (but I may need to increase the price to do so)
- Price it as £3
- Include competitions (of gigs and meet and greets and instruments ideally)
- Include eye catching colours on the front cover
- Do a music magazine including new bands
- Include just enough on the front cover to show everyone what's on offer inside the magazine without making it look heavy and busy
- Do a monthly magazine
